Opti, a startup focused on continuous monitoring and adaptive control (CMAC) of stormwater infrastructure, is seeking a Product Manager for our IoT solutions. Reporting to the President/COO, this position is open to start as soon as possible in Boston, MA.

At Opti, we build and deliver solutions to help communities achieve improved environmental outcomes. Our technology automatically controls the timing and rate of flow through stormwater storage systems, helping cities and businesses improve water quality, prevent localized flooding, and mitigate combined sewer overflows at reduced costs and less risk than existing alternatives. As the leading provider of CMAC solutions, Opti has installations in over 20 states across the US and is set to double in size in the next year.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to guide the success of our products and contribute directly to our growth and vision of efficient cities and safer, cleaner water.

Responsibilities

The Product Manager will be responsible for developing product strategy, defining product capabilities, and communicating the positioning of our IoT water management solutions. This includes gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining product vision, and working collaboratively with teams across the organization to meet business and customer satisfaction goals. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Communicating frequently with customers and partners to test and gather feedback on the user experience, and representing the voice of the customer inside Opti
  • Developing product strategy based on detailed market, technology, and competitive analysis
  • Crafting detailed product/market requirements documents including warranty, service, and support needs
  • Collaborating with senior management to develop and gain commitment for future product roadmaps
  • Working closely with Marketing to develop product positioning and messaging collateral, go-to-market launch plans, and programs to drive demand and adoption
  • Providing proactive analysis of new business opportunities
  • Coordinating and defining product release requirements with:
    • Engineering for technical specifications and the desired user experience
    • Finance for pricing and contract structures
    • Professional Services and Support for training and implementation plans
    • Sales for training, as well as technical and product performance information
  • Communicating strategy and vision to internal stakeholders, acting as an evangelist and thought leader for the vision and deployment
  • Monitoring business performance of the IoT hardware product portfolio, including product margins and inventory turn analysis, sales, and customer pricing data

Requirements

Preferred candidates will hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline with 5+ years of progressive experience in product development and management. A background in water resources and/or civil engineering is preferred. Specific requirements include the following:

  • Computer networking, cloud SaaS experience
  • Understanding the full IoT technology stack with proven experience in developing strategy and deployment of cloud service offerings
  • Deep interest in applications of technology in the water sector with an awareness of the complexity of the market and customer types
  • Excellent communication skills – oral, written & presentation
  • Ability to drive change and make progress in complex organizations
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations at a high growth company
